چکیده مقاله |
In this study, AA-5083 aluminum and St-37 steel bilayer sheets were fabricated using the roll bonding method. The goal, was to enhance the strength-to-weight ratio and combine the excellent formability of low-carbon steel with the superior corrosion resistance of aluminum. To prevent sample cracking and achieve better bonding, after drilling and surface preparation of the cut sheets, the rolling process was conducted by preheating at 400°C for 10 minutes. 61% thickness reduction was applied to ensure acceptable bond strength between the layers. After fabrication, uniaxial tensile and Vickers microhardness tests were performed on the initial sheets and the bilayer samples. The ultimate tensile strength (UTS), yield strength, elongation percentage, and microhardness were compared with the initial materials. Additionally, heat treatment was conducted at 450°C for two hours to enhance ductility. The results revealed that severe plastic deformation during single-pass rolling significantly increased the UTS and yield strength due to the development of ultrafine-grained structures, although ductility was reduced. Annealing led to a reduction in strength while improving elongation and ductility. The hardness of the layers showed a significant increase compared to the initial sheets. It was also observed that the hardness of the aluminum and steel layers varied due to differences in work-hardening capacity. |
