Clothing dimensional measurement using the machine vision technique

Increasing the production rate and reaching the standard size in the clothing industry is one of the most important challenges. Therefore, it is necessary to control the dimensional quality of clothing, as well as detect all kinds of defects caused by the lack of coordination of sizes according to the standard in the production process. The international standard ISO 18890 defines the main measurement points and describes the method used to measure the dimensions of clothing. In this paper, the parameters specified in the ISO 18890 for 4 clothes including a medium cardigan, an X-Large t-shirt, a large shirt, and a large coat were measured using the machine vision method and the clothing size compliance was extracted from the standard dimensions. It should be noted that according to the results of the calibration operation, the measurement was obtained with an average error percentage of 0.85%. In the next step, 30 participants were asked to wear the studied clothes and express their satisfaction with the size of the clothes. The results of the survey of the participants showed that the satisfaction was higher with the clothes that had more compliance than the standard dimensions. According to the results, it was observed that it is possible to control the quality of clothing using the machine vision technique with high accuracy and speed.
